In 1225, Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone (now better known at St Francis of Assisi) composed one of the great works of medieval literature – the Canticle of Brother Sun & Sister Moon. 800 years later, his poetic reflection on the interrelatedness of all things still inspires and challenges us to care for the world around and within us as a manifestation of the divine. This concert will celebrate Francis’ radical vision (updated for the needs of the 21st century) and will feature the world premiere of Portara Artistic Director Jason Shelton’s new setting of the Canticle, a multi-movement work for chorus, piano, and string orchestra.
Portara Presents: Granted
Celebrating 25 years of Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee
Sunday, May 4, 4pm
Frances Bond Davis Theatre
Harpeth Hall School
3801 Hobbs Road 37215
Join us for a family-friendly celebration of hope and resilience, as we honor the incredible work of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee. For 25 years, Make-A-Wish has been granting life-changing wishes for Middle Tennessee children with critical illnesses.
Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved—wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.
This concert will celebrate granted wishes through story and song, and we’ll hear about the impact of this amazing organization directly from wish kids and their families.
Tickets available now! All funds from ticket sales will go directly to Make-A-Wish, thanks to the generous support of our corporate sponsors and grant funders:

We heard over and over again that singing was one of the most dangerous things we could do during the pandemic.
Throughout the last few centuries, every major movement of social change has been accompanied by singing. Just look to the streets of Nashville this spring! We sing to inspire, to challenge, to encourage, and to propel us forward into a better, more equitable future. So perhaps singing has always been a little bit dangerous? This concert will honor music and movements of protest and social transformation.
Please note that due to limited seating this is a ticketed event. Click here to get yours!
This concert will feature (and benefit) a number of community partners. You’ll have a chance to hear from each of them and get engaged with their transformative work before you leave:
And we’ve got some amazing guests artists lined up for this show!
