Featuring Interpretations of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night by the First Graders of Glendale Elementary School
Ever since the first humans came into consciousness, we have looked to the night sky with a sense of awe, terror, and wonder. The mysteries of the stars have been the stuff of myth and legend, and artists have tried to capture their meaning from the moment we first learned to express ourselves. This concert, On a Starry Night, is an attempt to connect to that larger stream of creativity that has found inspiration in the beauty of the heavens. As this is our December performance, the concert naturally includes music inspired by the star of Bethlehem that marked the place where the Christ child lay. But we’ll also sing music drawn from classic and contemporary musings on the stars which remind us that wonder is not bound by season or doctrine. Those twinkling beacons may be the most universal point of reference imaginable.
